Mama said there would be days like this…

Yesterday was interesting to say the least! I’m a “have all my ducks in a row” kinda girl. Motherhood to me is all about being organized and sticking to a good schedule for feedings and sleeping at night and everything goes pretty smoothly. (Roll your eyes mamas…I know it’s not always perfect sticking to a schedule even – not at all claiming to be the “perfect mom”)

Other than that Jack has been such an easy going baby and is a great sleeper and eater…and pooper! So it was bound to happen when my days would get crazy and I wouldn’t have a second to even eat lunch.

Here’s a look at our day yesterday all in a nutshell just because I laughed through yesterday and I want to keep these early motherhood memories…enjoy…and laugh with me because I did and had zero frustration. I love this mama gig!

Woke …

1 Month

I can hardly believe that Jack is a month old! This has been the best yet fastest month of my life! I have loved every second of getting to know Jack and being his mama.

Jack has started to be awake more and track you as you move. He’s starting to smile more…still gas, but it’s cute! He loves to lay and just look around. Still loves to be swaddled and bounced. Absolutely loves music and car rides! He loves his paci, too!

He is still such a great eater and when I give him a bottle he can drink 5oz and sometimes still wants more. He continues to fill at least ten diapers a day! He’s been sleeping good though the night and only wakes up once – change his diaper and eats and back to sleep!

He continues to hate baths but calms down when I wash his …

3 Weeks

Jack Loren is 3 weeks old! We love him so much and can’t imagine our lives without him.  We went to the doctor this past Friday at a little over 2 1/2 weeks and Jack is healthy and growing! He now weighs 7lbs and 8oz and measuring 20 1/2inches. He eats like a champ! He literally eats, sleeps and poops just like the average baby! He continues to sleep well at night and has started to be more awake at times between feedings and is starting to track you more and move his head towards your voice.  Jack got his first bottle this past week so we could get out and about more. He did super well!  We got out and about more this week! We went and visited a friend who had a baby almost two weeks after Jack was born. They orgionally were due two days apart but …

2 Weeks

Jack continues to be a perfect and easy baby as far as we know. He’s been sleeping for 7-8 hours at night with just waking up twice in the middle of the night for a half hour to be changed and fed. The mamaroo continues to be a lifesaver as Jack loves to constantly be moved and rocked.

Jack has been awake more lately inbetween feedings and has the hiccups a lot. We’ve noticed that he has dimples on both sides of his cheeks just like his dad! They only come out here and there. He’s started tracking more with his eyes as he can probably see more and more distance. We almost think that he will keep his blue eyes since both of our siblings have blue eyes but we will see. He continues to pee on our visitors and had a projectile poop on his dad. These make …

Baby Bump

For all you baby bump lovers! I absolutely loved being pregnant and had a fairly easy pregnancy until the end when I had to deal with high blood pressure. I got so swollen towards the end because of my high blood pressure. I did have morning sickness towards the beginning and threw up twice. But over all it was easy! I just had food adversions, mainly towards chicken. Jack had the hiccups frequently and still does outside the womb! Hearing his heart beat for the first time or seeing him during an ultrasound was nothing you can describe. It’s amazing that during the 38 weeks he grew inside me that he was this cutie all along!

12 weeks – 38 weeks of my baby bump

1 Week

Jack Loren is 1 week old and he’s still perfect!  Jack went to his first doctors appointment on his daddy’s birthday. He was 6 lbs & 5 oz. Jack is starting to be more awake and alert at times. The more he cries or makes faces we can see that he has dimples just like his daddy. He is growing into his features but still not all those newborn clothes. Which I’m fine with, stay little forever!  He is such a good eater which means we have quite a few diapers to change. He far exceeds the amount of pee/poop diapers he should have each day. With that being said he has also leaked through and peed on a few of our guests! His umbilical cord fell off on day 6 so it’s helped with the leaks to have his diaper higher up. Estimated around 50 diapers changed in the …

Jack Loren Douwsma

Here’s the story of Jack Loren Douwsma…

The end of my pregnancy clearly didn’t end how I expected. Although I never had expectations but I thought for sure that Jack would be here on his own time, most likely days late.

Well, you can never plan the perfect pregnancy or the perfect birth. But here is our story – I hope to blog more and document moments so I can go back and reread them all. Who needs a baby book these days? No worries, I do have one.

But our birth story began towards the beginning on January when at one of my regular doctor appointments my blood pressure was high. Which was very unusual because every other appointment before was “everything looks great just keep it up!”. Well that day was not the case. It lead to more and more of “just relax and we will recheck your …

Preparing for Baby Douwsma

I’ve been asked many times if our nursery is done and when I will share pictures. Here’s Baby Douwsma’s room, minus his name that can now be hung above his bed. We are so excited to bring him home and into this space. Seth and I are both very guilty of just going into his room and sitting in his glider. We’ve spent our time in that glider praying, relaxing and working.

A little bit about his room…

Our baby bed was purchased by his Grandma and Grandpa Wegmiller. The glider was a hand-me-down from my cousin that was used by her daughter and it was recovered for Baby Douwsma. The book shelves were hand made by his daddy, which will bring us hours of fun reading all the books everyone has blessed us with! I hand made the triangle quilt. I almost gave up a few times because I’m …

Sun Kissed pt. 1

Here’s a few pictures of what we have been up to lately…Relaxing and soaking up the sun. I was able to capture it with the help of my new camera! Enjoy…

Living Life Through A Square Picture

Our life here isn’t about living for our status or our square pictures that make life seem so perfect. What if we saw each other how God sees us daily. The messy. The ugly. Life isn’t always beautiful. I guarantee if we saw each other’s mess from time to time our guards would come down and we would laugh because they are just like us. They have bad days and their house is a mess except for the area that they cleaned to show off to the world through a square picture. They may have taken the picture forty times to achieve the perfect shot. Maybe they stood on the countertop or stood upside down to make it perfect. Maybe they updated their status on something that makes you jealous, yet they painted a picture of perfection amongst their pain. It’s so easy to scroll through social media and compare …
